MUN Takes Students to Canada

In the penultimate week of January, six Model United Nations (MUN) delegates took the long journey to Canada, to attend North America's largest MUN Conference.

The 17th annual session of Vancouver Model United Nations was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Vancouver. The conference opened with a speech from Mr Mohamed Fahmy, an Egyptian-Canadian journalist who was wrongfully imprisoned in Egypt under charges of terrorism, while working for Al-Jazeera's English network. Mr Fahmy is now a lecturer at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

Following the three-day conference, which included several committees, a staged midnight crisis and a closing ceremony, several trips around the local area made the long journey from Jakarta worth it.

A full campus tour of the University of British Columbia, a trip in the cable-car to the top of Grouse Mountain to play in the snow, and an NHL hockey game to watch the Vancouver Canucks play the Los Angeles Kings rounded out a busy and highly enjoyable week on Canada's west coast.
