(I)GCSE Information Evening
In early March, Year Nine students and their parents were invited to an (I)GCSE Information Evening, where they learnt more about the subjects available to them in Years 10 and 11.
GCSE and IGCSE stand for 'General Certificate of Secondary Education' and 'International General Certificate of Secondary Education', respectively. GCSEs are the main qualifications taken by 14 to 16-year-olds in the United Kingdom, and they are highly valued by higher education providers and employers. (I)GCSEs are geared towards students in an international setting.
At BSJ, our Year 11 students are examined by the Cambridge Assessment International Education, Edexcel and AQA examination boards.
All students study the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, English Language; English Literature; Indonesian Studies; Mathematics; a Modern Foreign Language (French, Indonesian, Korean, Mandarin, or Spanish); Personal, Social and Health Education; and Physics. They then select three options from Art; Business Studies; Computer Science; Dance; Drama; Food and Nutrition; Economics; Geography; Global Perspectives; History; Music; Physical Education (PE) and Resistant Materials.
The Information Evening began with a welcome presentation from Head of Secondary, Mrs Dineke Spackman. This was followed by a rotation of talks from subject leaders, alongside opportunities for informal conversations over refreshments.
