In late March, Foundation Stage One celebrated Songkran, or Thai New Year. In the week leading up to the celebration, the classroom was decorated and the children engaged in activities related to the festival, such as cooking traditional dishes and making Thai crafts.
The day itself began with the customary blessings and cleansing, during which the students washed the hands of their "elders" (i.e. their teachers). This was followed by some extremely fun water play in the playground. Everyone was soaked!
The children were very fortunate to learn about the festival first hand from three Thai mothers who helped to put the activities together. As part of learning about Songkran, the students reflected on the similarities and differences between themselves and others.
