SEASAC Division 2 Rugby and Touch

BSJ teams recently participated in the SEASAC Division 2 Rugby (Boys) and Touch Rugby (Girls) competitions hosted by the Australian International School In Singapore.

The girls demonstrated an amazing level of Touch within the Round-Robin play, finishing 1st overall with a phenomenal 27 trys and only conceding 4. However, our captain Sahba Jackson received an injury to her shoulder and was unfortunately out of the tournament.

Despite this amazing play and determination, the girls lost their semi final with SAIS (who we had beaten the day before 5-0) by one try, leaving them to put their disappointment aside to play for the Bronze medal. Demonstrating resilience and determination, the girls out played the host team AIS to win their Bronze medal with a 2-1 victory with Anna Marfuad and Bonnie Buchanan scoring in this last game, awarding them both the MVP awards (most valuable player) for BSJ team for the tournament.

The girls were a delight to coach and we are all very proud of them and what they have achieved this year.

The boys team entered the tournament with plenty of enthusiasm and a determination to play some aggressive, running rugby. From the outset it was clear that the other teams making up the tournament were comprised of seasoned rugby players and would provide a strong challenge for our green and inexperienced team. Nevertheless they consistently demonstrated ferocious tackling and rucking, and defended stoically against physical and skilful opponents.

The boys made significant progress throughout the tournament and there were glimpses of sublime handling and strong running lines, even stretching teams at times with some champagne offloads and wily sidesteps. Despite being beaten the boys remained upbeat long after the final whistles and earned the respect of every team there. A bruising but rewarding weekend - well done to all involved!
