A Midsummer Night's Dream - 2022
Year 6 presents
A Midsummer Night's Dream. Book by Theresa Kane, based on the play by William Shakespeare. First published in 2011.
Welcome to an extravaganza of glow and glitter as Shakespeare collides with the 1980s. A Midsummer Night’s Dream tells the story of four Athenians who have a complicated and dramatic love life. Lysander and Hermia love each other and wish to be together. Helena loves Demetrius, but Demetrius loves Hermia, and Hermia’s father wants her to marry Demetrius!
Hermia and Lysander decide to run o! together into the woods, which happen to be inhabited by the Fairy King and Queen - Oberon and Titania, and the King’s mischievous henchman, Puck. The play tells the magical story of the eventual coming together of the four Athenians, and Duke Theseus and his bride, Hippolyta.
Enjoy characters inspired by David Bowie, Prince and Boy George, with some punk rock fairies thrown in for good measure. Add to that a few classic 80s tunes and you will be transported back in time where hair was oh so big; lycra and shoulder pads were an essential part of any self-respecting ladies (or men’s) wardrobe and it was acceptable to pair bright blue eyeshadow with pink lipstick.
