Little Shop of Horrors, 2022
BSJ Arts Faculty presents:
The Little Shop of Horrors. Book and lyrics by Howard Ashman. Music by Alan Menken.
‘In an early year of a decade not too long before our own. The human race suddenly encountered a deadly threat to its very existence and this terrifying enemy surfaced, as such enemies often do in the seemingly most innocent and unlikely of places.’
Welcome to Mr Mushnik’s flower shop, a sad and unfriendly venue on a run-down New York neighbourhood called Skid row, where the folks are broke, including our sappy anti-hero, Seymour Krelborn, who wishes to end his days of sweeping Mr Mushnik’s floors by entering a Faustian pact with a venus fly trap plant-like creature from out of space, who enjoys the taste of blood. Seymour names his new horticultural friend Audrey Two after his beau, the kind and caring Audrey. Unfortunately, Seymour’s affection for Audrey is unrequited as she longs for Orin Scrivellio, M.D., AKA Mad Dentist. Orin enjoys watching people suffer, including our loveable Audrey. The space plant, Audrey Two, now sees an opportunity for a big bloody feed.
