Developing Critical and Creative Thinkers
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) is a central part of the curriculum at BSJ for students in Years 7–11. Designed for learners aged 11–16, the programme encourages students to explore ideas in depth, make connections across subjects and apply their learning to real-world contexts.
Learning in the MYP is inquiry-based and encourages students to think critically, ask thoughtful questions and reflect on their understanding. Alongside strong subject knowledge, students develop key skills such as communication, collaboration, research and problem solving.
Students study a broad range of subjects including language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, the arts, physical and health education, and design. Interdisciplinary learning is an important feature of the programme, allowing students to explore ideas across subject boundaries and deepen their understanding.
At BSJ, academic challenge sits alongside a strong commitment to student wellbeing. The programme supports the intellectual, social and emotional development of each student, helping them grow in confidence, resilience and independence.
The MYP provides a strong foundation for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) in Years 12 and 13. By the end of the programme, students are well prepared for the academic rigour of the Diploma Programme and equipped with the skills and perspectives needed for university and learning beyond school.
Our Curriculum
Wellbeing at the Heart of Everything
At BSJ, wellbeing is intentionally woven into the everyday experience of learning. Rather than sitting alongside learning as a separate programme only, it is explicitly and implicitly embedded in the way we design learning, shape environments and nurture relationships within our school community.
Students develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions that support their wellbeing through meaningful learning experiences, strong relationships and opportunities to grow in confidence and independence. Through this approach, students learn to understand themselves and others, build healthy relationships and develop the resilience and agency needed to navigate challenges and opportunities.
Our learning environments are intentionally designed to support both wellbeing and academic growth. Students are encouraged to be curious, to take ownership of their learning and to contribute meaningfully to the community around them. When students feel safe, connected and valued, they are more willing to take risks in their learning and pursue deeper understanding.
Through this integrated approach, wellbeing and learning strengthen one another. Students develop not only the knowledge and capabilities to succeed academically, but also the confidence, adaptability and sense of purpose that enable them to thrive in school and beyond.

Service Learning
At British School Jakarta (BSJ), we pride ourselves on being a caring community that actively engages in various community projects and initiatives. From Year 1 to Year 13, our students work tirelessly to make a positive impact on society, with service learning at the core of our school's philosophy.

IB Diploma Programme
In Years 12 and 13, students embark on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP), a globally recognised qualification known for its academic rigour and emphasis on personal growth.
