Student Wellbeing

Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at BSJ. We have Heads of Wellbeing in both the Primary School and a Wellbeing Team in the Secondary School who oversee all aspects of wellbeing.

Care & Connection

We know that connecting with students is the best way to support and care for them. With this in mind we ensure that students spend sufficient time with both their tutor group and their wellbeing tutors to allow this to happen. In Years Seven - Nine wellbeing groups are a maximum of 24 students and wherever possible the wellbeing tutor remains with their class as they move through the school. From Year Ten and above the wellbeing groups are smaller with around 16 students.

This means students can have more individual contact with the tutor and the tutor is able to give more individual support which is vital for success during IGCSEs and the IB Diploma and Career Related Programmes.

In Primary, every year group also has a Year Leader who again accompanies their year group through the Stage. The Year Leader oversees the wellbeing of the whole year group supported by the Assistant Head for each stage and the Deputy Head Wellbeing.

In Secondary, Wellbeing groups are set up vertically so our students have the opportunity to interact with students of different ages and experiences. In MYP, we have students in years 7-9 in wellbeing groups; in IGCSE we have students in years 10-11 and in the IB Diploma and Career Related Programme we have students in years 12 and 13 in our wellbeing groups. Every phase has two to four Wellbeing Leaders who accompany their students through the stage. The Wellbeing Leader oversees the wellbeing of the whole year group supported by the Assistant Head in charge of Wellbeing and the school counsellors and Designated Child Protection Officers.
