Arts
The Arts play a crucial role in the extra-curricular life of the school and many students find their ‘home’ in exploring their passion for arts together outside of the formal curriculum.
British School Jakarta’s Performing Arts Company:
We are student and teacher artists at BSJ, striving to make work that moves and inspires.
When making art together, a certain magic takes place and the individual experiences a shift in their perspective and understanding of the world. As learners, we discover that we are capable of more than we ever dreamed. As artists, we discover that our work becomes more interesting as we respond to others and see ourselves as part of a collective: each individual made better by the experience of being part of a group.
As artists, learners and teachers, we wanted to give ourselves an identity to recognize the extraordinary work that develops when artistic relationships are nurtured and time and energy are dedicated to the creative process, thus the Moving Parts Collective was born.
Over the last four years of the life of Moving Parts Collective, we have staged a wide range of productions for every age group, including a number of mixed age range productions. We believe that the arts are one place where different ages can come together and collaborate in a way that allows us to learn from each other, develop empathy and find a community that we can feel at home in.
Past Productions have been A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Emil and The Detectives; Top Girls, Trash, Lord of the Flies, The Children’s Hour; Alice in Wonderland; Great Expectations; Seussical: the Musical; Shakespeare Festival (Julius Caesar; The Tempest; Twelfth Night); The Beaux’ Stratagem and Peter Pan: A Musical Adventure.
