Kindergarten

Kindergarten is the foundation of future learning. This is where we begin to inspire our creative thinkers to have a natural curiosity of the world around them. It is where children start to develop their social skills, independence and resilience in preparation for their educational journey. Kindergarten is the key to acquiring the necessary skills to enable children to have a seamless transition into the Primary sector.

Kindergarten Curriculum

At British School Jakarta we follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum for England.

During Kindergarten, your child will work towards a set of Early Learning Goals covering 7 areas of development; within these areas are 3 Prime and 4 Specific Areas of Development. The Prime Areas are the foundations on which we build the skills of learning and development. They are Communication and Language; Physical Development; and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. The Specific Areas are the areas from which teaching and learning will be further developed. They are Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.

At BSJ Kindergarten, we know our children make outstanding progress developing the core foundation skills in order to transition into Year One.  

Kindergarten Staff

Each advantageously sized Kindergarten class is taught by a highly qualified Early Years Teacher, assisted by fully qualified and trained Early Years Teaching Assistants. The Kindergarten team is coordinated by our Early Years Specialist, in conjunction with the Early Years Assistant Head of Primary.

Music, Physical Education and Swimming lessons are taught by dedicated, purpose trained specialist teachers who are experts in their subject and teach with energy, passion and enthusiasm.

All staff working within Kindergarten develop positive relationships with students to motivate and enable all children to reach their full potential.

Kindergarten Environment 

Kindergarten is located in a purpose-built setting, specifically designed with our young learners in mind. The facilities are world-class and offer a large range of stimulating, exciting opportunities for young children to investigate and explore.

Kindergarten has a wide variety of accessible indoor spaces including open classrooms with interactive computer installations, a child-friendly Kitchen, the Rainforest Café Lunchroom, a Library, a Gross Motor Gym, as well as flexible, exploratory areas designed around students’ interests.

Children are also able to move freely from indoor to outdoor provision where they are able to explore and play within lush gardens, sandpits, mud kitchens, bike tracks, and the newly installed bespoke interactive water play area.

Language Rich Curriculum 

Communication and Language Acquisition is an integral element of our Kindergarten education, ensuring children are provided with the capability to express emotions and interact socially as well as the skills to listen appropriately and maintain attention.

Developing strong speaking and listening skills provides the foundation for future learning; having confidence and capability with language leads to a successful transition from Kindergarten into the Primary sector and future education.
