Our pirate ship playground at the Primary School
Primary School
Welcome to the Primary School
The school is well established in Jakarta and has a long and successful record of serving the expatriate community. The primary section now offers four forms in Year One and five forms in each year group from Year Two through Year Six (Years Two to Six correspond with Years One to Five in the Indonesian school system). Prior to Year One, BSJ’s world class Kindergarten delivers the UK’s Early Years Foundation Stage Programme. The age range for each year group is as shown at the bottom of this page along with the corresponding school year groups.
LEARNING AND TEACHING
At BSJ we know that successful learners must develop a set of skills or ‘approaches to learning’ which enable them to succeed academically and which enrich the school experience. The development and application of these skills through inspiring and challenging lessons ensures that students can flourish and reach their potential far beyond school. Children develop the ability to self-manage, to be organised and proactive at an age appropriate level. They learn to communicate effectively in writing, when speaking and when using digital media. Children develop research skills, including both the traditional use of the library as well as efficient and effective online research methods. They learn to form and maintain positive social relationships and the importance of teamwork. Our children learn to reflect on their learning, to think critically and to share their thinking in innovative and creative ways.
PRIMARY FACILITIES AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Our resources and facilities are exceptional, with recent upgrades creating 21st Century learning spaces for both indoor and outdoor learning. These provide a stimulating and exciting environment that encourages children to fully engage in the learning experience. All classrooms are purpose built, modern and designed to enhance flexible modes of learning, with shared open areas, art rooms and easy access to outdoor learning spaces.
In addition to the classrooms, children have access to a wide range of specialist facilities such as a purpose built two storey Primary library, a maker space, kitchens, a science lab, music studios, extensive outdoor areas for PE and swimming, two gymnasiums, the new Sports Centre and of course, the BSJ World Theatre.
Of course facilities and classrooms are important, but it is the quality of the teachers and support staff that ensures children have the best possible opportunities. At BSJ we are fortunate to have highly skilled and committed staff who will go the extra mile for the children. BSJ teachers have recent and relevant experience from the UK and many have previously worked overseas. Up-to-date staff training ensures that our teachers are kept abreast of the latest methods for enhancing learning in today’s fast changing global society.
