Rockschool Vocational Qualifications

British School Jakarta (BSJ) is pleased to announce a new programme for its music-loving students, with qualifications tailor-made for the future contemporary musician, called The Rockschool Vocational Qualification (RSVQ). The Rock School Vocational Qualification is designed for students to learn real-world skills and knowledge as professional musicians and producers in the music industry.

For BSJ students, the RSVQ offers two certified programmes: A Music curriculum, applicable to Yr 9 students who decide to study Music and their Middle Year Programme (MYP), and an extracurricular programme.  

 

RSVQ as Music Curriculum

In Y9, students will be starting the Rock School Vocational Qualifications Level 1 Music Practitioner qualification with the plan to add the Level 2 qualifications next academic year in MYP4/5. The Level 1 qualification is equivalent to a GCSE C to G grade, and the Level 2 is equivalent to a GCSE A to C grade.

The Year 9 Music course will still be based on the Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum framework allowing students to develop both subject-specific and interdisciplinary understanding. Two Rock School Vocational Qualifications units will be taught through this adaptable framework. The plan is for Y9 Music students to complete a Rock School Vocational Qualifications Level 1 Certificate for Music Practitioners alongside their MYP Course.

The Y9 RSVQ Level 1 Music Practitioner course will consist of the Music Sequencing & Production unit and the Listening to Music unit. Students who complete both units will receive the Rockschool Vocational Qualifications Level 1 Certificate Award.

RSVQ as Extracurricular Activity

Additionally, BSJ will also introduce the RSVQ Extracurricular Activity, which will take place after school. The RSVQ ECA programme will also follow the Rock School Vocational Qualifications Level 1 Music Practitioner qualification. 

The ECA RSVQ Level 1 Music Practitioner course will consist of two units -  the Music Rehearsal Skills unit and the Live Performance unit. Students who complete both units will receive the Rockschool Vocational Qualifications Level 1 Certificate Award.
