Bridging Education and Sports: BSJ’s Inspiring Outreach in Maluku

On 18-21 February 2025, BSJ sent a dedicated team of teachers and football coaches to Ambon, Maluku, to run workshops and community sessions across several schools and villages. The goal of this initiative was to support local educators and young athletes through knowledge-sharing, skill development, and collaborative learning.

As a continuation of our service project delivered in July 2024, four BSJ teachers — Dani, Dewina, Hanifa, and Regina — travelled to Maluku to share effective teaching practices with educators from SD Negeri Seilale, SD Negeri Air Louw, and Yayasan J. B. Sitanala (SD–SMA).

The team demonstrated innovative teaching strategies through live classroom sessions, giving local teachers the opportunity to observe these methods in action. These were followed by interactive workshops and Q&A discussions, allowing participants to explore practical ways to enhance their own teaching. Workshop topics included: Effective Questioning, Classroom Management & Building Positive Relationships, Learning Diversity , and Effective Strategies for Motivating Teenage Students.

In line with BSJ’s holistic approach to education and community engagement, the trip also integrated sports development activities led by two of our football coaches, Rifki and Kenny. They facilitated a two-day coaching clinic at Sekolah Sepak Bola Khabarezi, which operates in the villages of Wainuru and Airlouw.

Approximately 100 enthusiastic young players participated in these sessions designed to improve their technical skills, teamwork, and love for the game. Local coaches were also engaged in the clinics, alongside a special session for parents that focused on how to support their children in pursuing a future in football.

To further connect with the region’s rich football heritage, the team visited the renowned football village of Tulehu. Known as a cradle of football talent in Indonesia, Tulehu has produced many top-level players and was the home base of the team that won the Medco Cup in Jakarta. The visit offered invaluable insights into the local passion for the sport and the role it plays in community life.

We hope this initiative opens new doors for local schools and football communities in Maluku, providing tools and inspiration to improve both education and youth development. A heartfelt thank you to the BSJ Service Team, as well as the Bahasa Basudara organisation, for making this enriching and impactful experience possible!
