BSJ Biathlon 2025: A Day of Sport, Community, and Giving

The British School Jakarta (BSJ) proudly hosted its annual BSJ Biathlon, bringing together 328 participants from the BSJ community and the wider public for a day filled with energy, camaraderie, and purpose. This year’s event successfully raised over IDR 113 million, with all proceeds donated to the Ikatan Sindroma Down Indonesia (ISDI), continuing a meaningful partnership that has flourished for over 20 years.

The Biathlon, a signature BSJ tradition, combines swimming and running races for individual, team and even costume run categories! September’s event, a key highlight in BSJ’s Physical Wellbeing Month, attracted not only the BSJ community but also families from across Jakarta, who travelled on the day to participate.

ISDI representative Nashita Nio, was pleased to share the enthusiasm of their community: “Some participants have been preparing for up to six months. We provided facilities to support their training in both swimming and running, and today, with 50 participants with Down syndrome, their families, and our ISDI team, we are thrilled to take part. The Biathlon is a rare and meaningful opportunity for us to join both swimming and running competitions."

One parent shared, “We are so grateful to BSJ for organising this event. For the Down syndrome community, it is truly precious to gather with friends in such a setting. It means so much to us.”

“We are delighted to have not just students and parents but also the greater community participate in this special activity to support such a wonderful cause.” — Philip Edwards, BSJ Interim Principal

BSJ Wholeschool Activities Coordinator and PHE Teacher Chantelle Kentwell reflected on this phenomenal milestone: “We are so grateful for today’s event and for our 20+ years of partnership with ISDI. With over 328 participants and more than IDR 113 million raised, it has truly been a fantastic day that demonstrates the power of community, sport, and giving back.”

The Biathlon was a key highlight of BSJ’s Month of Wellbeing, with September dedicated to Physical Wellbeing. BSJ Head of Wellbeing, Andrea Downie highlighted the deeper significance of the event: “At BSJ, wellbeing is not something extra we add on. It is central to everything we do. Events like the Biathlon bring our values to life, showing how physical activity, connection, and purpose can support both individual growth and collective thriving.”
