BSJ Student Band Performs at Pagelaran Sabang Merauke 2025
British School Jakarta’s (BSJ) student bands took to the stage during this year’s Pagelaran Sabang Merauke 2025, entertaining the crowd with their showstopping performances. The event, held on 23–24 August at the Indonesia Arena, Senayan, brought together hundreds of artists in a vibrant celebration of Indonesian heritage through music, dance, and theatrical storytelling.
Three BSJ student bands, 106, Satu Arah, and Sunfish & Squids - featuring a total of 16 talented students, dazzled with dynamic sets that blended energy, creativity, and musical excellence.
The bands performed a range of Indonesian songs, including Indonesian national and folk pieces as well as music from contemporary Indonesian artists—capturing the spirit of Pagelaran Sabang Merauke, which celebrates the richness and diversity of Indonesian culture.
At BSJ, nurturing student wellbeing is pivotal to a successful learning journey. By fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, the school helps students develop the confidence, resilience, and sense of belonging they need to perform and thrive both in and beyond the classroom.
BSJ Head of Wellbeing Andra Downie shared, “Seeing our incredibly talented students and staff performing Pagelaran Sabang Merauke was a testament to the confidence they have, and the deep connection they feel to the rich traditions that beautiful Indonesia embodies“
BSJ Secondary students also joined Pagelaran Sabang Merauke as part of the Music Programme’s cultural trip. BSJ Assistant Faculty Leader of Arts Tomoko Ogusu, noted:
“This Pagelaran is a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn more about Indonesian culture through music and dance.”
