BSJ Students and Teachers Shine in Pagelaran Sabang Merauke 2025
British School Jakarta (BSJ) is proud to celebrate the achievements of our talented students and staff at this year’s Pagelaran Sabang Merauke, a spectacular celebration of Indonesian arts and culture. Held on 23–24 August 2025 at the Indonesia Arena, Senayan, the event welcomed thousands of audience. It brought together hundreds of artists in a magical display of music, dance, and theatrical storytelling under the theme Hikayat Nusantara.
Representing BSJ was Year 13 student, Zahara Christie as Zie, Sherazade as a harpist, and BSJ Music teachers, Christine Andrean in choir and Nino Ario as clarinettist. Their remarkable participation highlights BSJ’s commitment to nurturing creativity and artistic excellence.
BSJ Head of Arts Stephen Tomlinson shared “It has been wonderful to be at the Pagelaran Sabang Merauke show today, watching our students and staff perform. Being part of an event like this is truly an honour and a highlight of our year. We are grateful to iForte for their fantastic partnership, and I sincerely hope we can continue working together to deepen our understanding of Indonesian culture.”
Zahara reflected on her experience, “I am very grateful to be part of this performance and such a grand and magnificent event. I’ve been participating since 2022 and I love it so much, especially because I am also representing the British School Jakarta.”
Sherazade added, "I’m very proud to be part of Pagelaran Sabang Merauke as a harpist. It’s such a joy to perform alongside so many amazing artists and talented people, while also representing the beauty of what Indonesia has to offer. I am truly grateful to be part of this experience, and I hope to participate in more in the future.”
Since its debut in 2022, Pagelaran Sabang Merauke has enjoyed a meteoric rise in popularity. Blending traditional and contemporary performances resulting in a spectacular tribute to Indonesia’s diversity.
For BSJ, taking part in this year’s Pagelaran goes beyond the performance itself. It is a celebration of learning beyond the classroom and recognition of how arts and culture shape well-rounded, globally minded individuals.
